About Sebastian Caniza Lim

A bit about me and my book

At the tender age of 16, Sebastian Lim has emerged as a prodigious talent in the literary world, defying expectations with the release of his debut book on Stoicism. This young luminary showcases a level of intellectual maturity and insight well beyond his years, captivating readers with a fresh perspective on ancient philosophy.

Sebastian Lim describes himself as a servant of the Truth, his debut book on Stoicism A Stoic's Resolve: Sprinkled Reflections on Existence detailing his strict adherence and prevailing pursuit toward it.

In his book, a book born out of one of Sebastian's most tumultuous life phases, Sebastian takes readers on a journey through the fundamental principles of Stoicism, translating these age-old ideas into relatable concepts for both his peers and adults. Through skillful storytelling and a keen understanding of the human experience, Sebastian provides practical insights into resilience, wisdom, and inner strength. His book serves not only as an introduction to Stoicism but also as an inspiration for minds of all ages to engage with philosophical concepts.

As Sebastian was writing this book, he embarked on philosophical ventures akin to how Marcus Aurelius or Seneca did so privately in their spare time, quietly taking the time to lay out the matters of their hearts and deconstructing them to their most basic elements in order to formulate rational conclusions, bringing clarity to their souls: The art of reflection. These two individuals are prime examples of what it means to be a master of this art, and were the individuals who primarily intrigued him as he read their writings, enabling him to hold a firmer grasp on Stoicism.

In Sebastian's pursuit of this art through that phase, over many years, he beckoned a lasting Order within himself, becoming a person more fortified to face future struggles. In refining such writings over those years of struggle, Sebastian dissected and reallocated distinct texts through a grueling process, categorizing them into sections akin to the phases of life. Their unique organization means that the principles themselves are not organized in any linear fashion, making the philosophical progression of Sebastian's Being through these principles unapparent. However, the main advantage that Sebastian had in mind when he organized these principles in this manner is that it effectively highlights the conclusions derived from his philosophical ventures through their grouping into distinct conglomerations, making them more distinct and easier to relate these conclusions to him on a personal level. Indeed, the author thinks that their complementary nature presents more benefits than an evident progression, even making it unnecessary, for new perspectives can be availed through their linking.

Another note about the book is that perhaps not any one of its principles and commandments can be truly humanly reached or constantly internalized by anyone, including Sebastian. Yet, why? Why did Sebastian list these unattainable principles down, even claiming to have reached some of them in his book? Sebastian did so because of this line of reasoning: By claiming to have changed one's attitude, one is more inclined to believe they have and, therefore, act in their lives as if the principle were already completely internalized. Such is an example of the power of philosophy and the Truth, and was a guiding attitude within the author as he wrote the book. Thus, though tempting as you delve into Sebastian's work, do not fret if any of these discovered principles or commandments seem impossible. They were meant to show the high bar of the Good Life.

Overall, Sebastian's passion for philosophy and personal development is palpable in every page, encouraging readers to embrace the transformative power of Stoicism as a tool for navigating life's challenges. His debut work not only stands as a testament to his intellectual prowess but also as a beacon of inspiration for individuals of all ages, his youth proving that wisdom knows no bounds when it comes to age. As Sebastian Lim embarks on his literary journey, he invites readers to join him in exploring the profound depths of philosophy and the timeless relevance of Stoic principles.
